Fifa World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Europe
The FIFA World Cup is an international football tournament held every four years. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the event, and is scheduled to take place in Qatar between 21 November and 18 December 2022. This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world and the first in a Muslim-majority country.
The tournament will involve 32 national teams, including that of the host nation, as was previously announced by FIFA.
A total of 31 slots are available for European teams (including hosts Qatar), with Russia qualifying automatically as hosts. Of the remaining 30 places, 20 will be determined through UEFA’s Nations League system, leaving 10 to be decided through traditional qualifying matches.
Qualifying rounds are expected to begin in March 2020, almost two years before the final tournament kicks off.
The current European champions are Portugal, who defeated France 1–0 after extra time in last year’s final held in Moscow. Germany are the most successful team in World Cup history having won it four times (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014), while also finishing as runners-up on four occasions (1966, 1982, 1986, 2002).
Fifa World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Australia
The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the quadrennial international men’s soccer tournament. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar in November and December 2022. This will be the first World Cup held entirely in Asia, and the first in a Muslim-majority country.
The final will be played at Lusail Iconic Stadium, which is currently under construction and is expected to have a capacity of 86,000.
Australia has been drawn into Group B for the second round of Asian qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ – alongside China PR, Syria and Guam.
The top two nations from each group will automatically qualify for Qatar 2022, while the two third-placed teams will contest an intercontinental playoff for another spot at next year’s global showpiece event.
Australia qualified for their fourth consecutive World Cup finals appearance after defeating Honduras 3-1 on aggregate in an intercontinental playoff back in November 2017.
During qualification for Russia 2018, Australia navigated their way through an arduous group that included Asian champions Japan, as well as Syria and Saudi Arabia – eventually finishing third behind only Japan and Saudi Arabia to progress to an intercontinental playoff against CONCACAF nation Honduras.
Next Fifa World Cup
The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious international football tournament in the world and is contested by the senior men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The current holder is Germany, which won its fourth title at the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
Fifa World Cup 2020
The FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition established in 1930. It is contested by the men’s national teams of the member associations of FIFA, the sport’s global governing body. The tournament is played every four years, and 20 countries have qualified for it so far.
This will be the first time that the World Cup will be held in Asia, and specifically in Qatar. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 21 November to 18 December 2022. This will also mark the first time that the World Cup will not be held in June or July, due to concerns about the heat during those months in Qatar.
A total of 64 matches will be played in eight venues across Qatar, with a maximum capacity of 60,000 spectators per stadium. The final will take place at Lusail Iconic Stadium, making it the first ever final to be held outside Europe or South America.
As has been custom since 2002, each team participating in the FIFA World Cup Finals will receive $8 million just for qualifying for the event; this number does not include any prize money earned from actually playing matches at the finals themselves.
If a team makes it all the way to winning the championship match, they could potentially walk away with over $38 million dollars!
Conclusion
Australia will take on Tunisia in their first match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™. The game will kick off at 11:00pm (AEDT) on Monday, 21 June and will be broadcast live on SBS and Optus Sport. You can also follow all the action on The Roar with our live blog and highlights.
This will be Australia’s first appearance at a FIFA World Cup since 2006, when they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by eventual champions Italy. They will be looking to make a good impression in Qatar as they aim to progress further than that this time around.
Tunisia, meanwhile, qualified for their fifth FIFA World Cup finals appearance by topping African Group E ahead of Senegal and Congo DR. They have never made it past the group stage at a World Cup, but will be hoping to change that in Qatar.
The two teams have only ever met twice before, with Australia winning both games – 3-1 in 2001 and 2-0 in 2005.
